Khorezm Socialist Soviet Republic, 1923

Khorezm Socialist Soviet Republic, 1923

On 23 October 1923 the Khorezm People's Soviet Republic was transformed into the Khorezm Socialist Soviet Republic and its flag changed to one with pure Soviet symbolism: gone was the Muslim crescent and star and on the red flag now appeared a five-pointed star outlined in yellow, with inside, in a circle, symbols of industry and agriculture: a hammer, a spade and a cotton plant. Underneath it is an inscription in Uzbek, written in Yanga imlâ Arabic lettering and in Russian Cyrillc lettering, the abbreviation of the country’s name, Kh.S.S.R.
