Bug pit, Zindar prison

The gruesome ‘bug pit’ where Stoddart and Conolly languished in a dark chamber filled with lice, scorpions and other vermin in Zindar, the Emir's notorious prison behind the Ark. Colonel Charles Stoddart was arrested and locked up here by Emir Nasrullah Khan in 1838 and Captain Arthur Conolly in 1841; they were both executed in 1842.
