The Aral Sea

Aral Sea shore

A thick black mud “beach” at Oq kendi, on the western section of the almost disappeared Aral Sea (Orol dengizi). The water has a very high salinity and is polluted by the huge quantities of fertiliser and pesticides that have been used on the cotton and other farms during Soviet days.
