The historical region of Cappadocia

Frescoes, Karanlık Church

Frescoes in the Karanlık Kilise (Dark Church) , a monastic compound built in the 11th century. It is a domed church with one main apse, two small apses and four columns, decorated with scenes from the New Testament; these are the best preserved in all of Cappadocia and a fine example of 11th-century Byzantine art. It is part of the Göreme Open Air Museum near Göreme, Central Anatolia.
