The town of Göreme, formerly called Avcılar, but, being next to the Göreme Open Air Museum with its cave churches and frescoes, now referred to by this name; previous names also included Korama, Matiana and Maccan or Machan, in the Cappadocia (Kapadokya) region of Anatolia, central Turkey.
