The Nusret minelayer

The Nusret minelayer, which played a significant role in the Çanakkale Naval Victory during the Gallipoli campaign in the First World War. It is, however, a replica built in 1982: the original ship had been converted into a freighter but sank in 1989. Ten years later it was lifted from the seabed and bought by the city of Tarsus, converted it into a museum ship and it is displayed there. Across the Dardanelles is Kilitbahir Castle on the Gallipoli peninsula.
