Ataúro

Fretilin monument

The monument in Vila to as many as 3000 Fretilin fighters who were kept prisoners by the Indonesians on Ataúro island between 1980 and 1987. The text in Tetum under the flags reads "The isolation of Ataúro island did not extinguish the spirit of resistance leading to national liberation".
