An iNtfwasa graduation Ceremony in 1972 - Day 2
A newly qualified tangoma, brushes an anxious small boy with a “sizinga”, a special brush with which she “smells out” evil spirits that may reside his body, “sneezing” the spirit body out when it is found. She is fitted out with an “umfembi”, a device that contains ritual objects, among others the nose of a hyena, an animal with a keen sense of smell.
