The People of Suriname
A small Maroon girl in the village of Bigiston on the west bank of the Marowijne River (Maroni River). It used to be an Indian village called Temeri, with a mixed Arowak and Maroon population; during the civil war in the 1980s most Maroons fled across the river to French Guiana.
