Marowijne, Suriname's North-east
The guide from French Guiana explains the manioc strainer, a long, tube-shaped, pressure strainer, woven in a characteristic helical pattern from palm leaves, hung from a tree branch, to expel the bitter liquid with poison from the cassava (manioc) pulp before it can be used; in the Maroon village of Malinka, in eastern Suriname, on the west bank of the Marowijne River (Maroni River).
