Marowijne, Suriname's North-east

Family life in the hammock

Family life in the hammock in the village of Bigiston on the west bank of the Marowijne River (Maroni River). It used to be an Indian village called Temeri, with a mixed Arawak and Maroon population; during the civil war in the 1980s most Maroons fled across the river to French Guiana.
