Maroon Villages in Sipaliwini
A manioc strainer, a long, tube-shaped, pressure strainer, woven in a characteristic helical pattern from palm leaves, hung and twisted to expel the bitter liquid with poison from the cassava (manioc) pulp before it can be used; in Gunsi, a Saramacca Maroon village on the Upper Suriname river, in the centre of Suriname.
