KwaNdebele, 1982

KwaNdebele, 1982

A coat of arms for the KwaNdebele Legislative Assembly had been registered in February 1981. It featured on a round yellow shield a corncob (mealie) in white and green above a brown mason-brick wall symbolising agriculture and construction. Behind the shield is a battle axe and an assegai (spear), with a bundle of wood staves and a knobkerrie club in a quiver. The crest shows an otter skin neckband with the breast feather of a red-breasted shrike. The supporters are a Rietbok (reedbuck) and a gnu (wildebeest). The motto in the isiNdebele language is “KUVUSWA EZIVUSAKO” (‘He is helped who helps himself’).
