Venda, 1973

Venda, 1973

A coat of arms had been registered in 1972 and was only formally taken into use at the state’s “independence” on 13 September 1979. It featured a shield with an elephant’s head in yellow and green, surmounted by a Venda drum and supported by two elephants on a green field. The motto “SHUMELA VENḒA” (Always Aspire for Venda) was on a yellow scroll at the bottom.
