La Réunion, 2003

In 2003, the Vexillological Association of Réunion selected a flag depicting the volcano of la Fournaise with five gold sunbeams on a blue sky. The flag had actually been designed in 1974 by Guy Pignolet with the help of Jean Finck and Didier Finck, who called it Lö Mahavéli. In 2003, the Association chose this design and started to promote Lö Mahavéli. It has yet to have official recognition, but since 2014, it has flown outside or on top of many public buildings.
