Princely State of Chitral, 1885
The Princely State of Chitral was a fully independent monarchy until 1885, when it became a princely state under British Indian suzerainty. It acceded to Pakistan in 1947, and in 1954 it became a federated state of Pakistan until 1969, when all frontier states were abolished. The state flag of the princely state of Chitral was triangular in shape and white in colour with, in pale green, Tirich Mir, the highest mountain of the Hindu Kush range, between a cedar and a poplar tree and the name “Chitral” spelled out underneath. This flag served as a symbol of the “Mehtar”, the ruler of the Katur Dynasty; it flew above the Chitral fort in the later years of the state.
