Boxing matches are part of the celebrations of Karen New Year in Taungale, near Hpa-an, Kayin (Karen) State. Young boys are eager to have a go and to the sound of a traditional orchestra they go for it, under the watchful eye of a referee. At the end of the match they do a victory dance and prostrate, paying respect to the monks of the local monastery who have come to watch.
