Mingun, on the Ayeryawady

Mingun Pahtodawgyi

The Mingun Pahtodawgyi, actually just the brick base of a pagoda that was to have been 150 metres high, at the ancient site of Mingun 11 kilometres upstream from Mandalay along the Ayeyarwady (Irrawady) river. It was started with slave labour, in 1790 on the orders of King Bodawpaya, and stopped in 1819 when the king died.
