On 6 March 1960 the state arms of the Mongolian People’s Republic was changed: a horseman racing through a landscape in stylised form, including desert, steppe, forest and mountains towards the rising sun. This is framed by wheat and a cogwheel, symbolising agriculture and industry. The red star of communism includes the “soyombo” and on the ribbon is, in white Cyrillic capitals, the letters “BNMAU”, the abbreviation of the name of the country - Bügd Nairamdakh Mongol Ard Uls.
