Federated States of Micronesia, 1979

On 10 May 1979, four of the Trust Territory districts ratified a new constitution to become the Federated States of Micronesia. Its Official Seal features a sprouting coconut in the blue sea and four white stars in a light blue sky, representing its four states: Pohnpei, Kosrae, Chuuk and Yap. A scroll with the motto Peace, Unity, Liberty and the date, 1979, is at the bottom. It is ringed by a sennit rope, as used by Micronesian navigators.
