The Northwest of Malta
Replica of the German bomb which pierced the dome of the Basilica of the Assumption of Our Lady (Rotunda of Mosta) on 9 April 1942. Two bombs had been dropped on the church; none exploded, but one 500 kg high explosive bomb pierced the dome and entered the church, where more than 250 people were at evening mass. As nobody got hurt, it was interpreted as a miracle. The original bomb was defused and dumped into the sea and this replica is displayed in the sacristy at the back of the church, with the words “The Bomb Miracle, 9 April 1942”).
