Crown Colony of Malta, 1814

On 23 July 1813, the Malta Protectorate was transformed into a British Crown colony, confirmed by the Treaty of Paris in 1814. The flag adopted was that of the Malteser Order of St. John: red, with a white cross throughout but with a Union flag in the upper hoist.
