Kosovska Mitrovica, the Serbian sector

Serbian manifestation

A big manifestation calling for Serbian rights in Kosovo, with many Serbian flags and speeches in Kosovska Mitrovica, the Serbian sector north of the Iban river in Mitrovica. In the background, on the so-called miners hill, is the miners monument, built in 1973 by architect Bogdan Bogdanović: two columns holding a mining cart, dedicated to the miners of the city (Albanian and Serbian partisans), who lost their lives during World War II; it was meant to overcome national divisions and promote peaceful coexistence between the two communities in post-war Yugoslavia.
