Haenyeo Memorial

The Jeju Haenyeo Anti-Japanese Movement Memorial Tower honouring the Haenyeo, the women divers, in Sehwa, 15 kilometres north of Seongsan. The Jeju Haenyeo Anti-Japanese Movement was the largest movement organised by women against Japan’s policies of exploitation and ethnic discrimination and started in January 1932. The memorial tower honours Jeju Haenyeo’s courageous spirit.
