Hwaeomsa Temple, South Jeolla Province

Yeongiam Hall

One of the elaborate halls, a stone lantern and pagoda at Yeongiam Hermitage, where it is said Hwaeomsa Temple originated, founded by the Indian monk named Yeon-gi, burnt down during the Imjin Wars, the Japanese Invasion of Korea in 1592, but restored in 1989. In the background the 13 metres high Manjusri, or the Bodhisattva of Wisdom.
