Gwangju Metropolitan City (previous)

Gwangju is the sixth largest city in South Korea, now a designated metropolitan city and previously the capital of South Jeolla Province. Its previous symbol stands for the Hanja (Chinese) character of Gwangju. The eight blue shapes symbolise the “town of light”, the meaning of the city's name, bringing together energies from all directions and beams light into the whole nation. It also represents the main city of the southwestern region of Korea.
