Gangwon Province (previous)

The previous flag of Gangwon-do, Gangwon Province, was white over blue, with a red sun on the white stripe and on the blue stripe a stylised representation of Mount Seoraksan, third highest in Korea, with its three peaks: the highest peak is Daecheongbong, with a height of 1,708 metres; to the east is OeSeorak and to the west is NaeSeorak. The blue colour may also stand for the East Sea (Sea of Japan), with which the province has a long coastline.
