Seoul Special City, 1947
Seoul, Korea’s capital city's emblem and flag was chosen in a prize contest on the occasion of its designation “Seoul Free Special City” on 28 September 1946, and became official 1 April 1947 until it was replaced by the new one. The circle in the centre of the emblem represents the streets and the octagonal symbol stands for eight mountains surrounding Seoul: Namsan, Ansan, Inwangsan, Pukaksan, Naksan, Muhagbong, Wausan and Ungbong.
