Pompeii

Bas relief, Pompeii

Colourful stucco bas reliefs in the Stabian Baths, Pompeii's oldest bath complex, probably dating from the 2nd century BCE. The Stabian baths contain the earliest example of the hypocaust underfloor heating system that Romans used to heat their rooms with hot air.
