Pompeii
The “House of the Faun”, built during the 2nd century BCE, one of the largest, and most impressive luxurious aristocratic private residences in Pompeii. The house has been named for the bronze statue of a dancing faun, a forest god or place-spirit of Roman mythology, often associated with Greek satyrs and the Greek god Pan. It was originally placed on the lip of the impluvium, a basin for catching rainwater but moved to the centre of the impluvium.
