Temple of Apollo

The Temple of Apollo, a temple dedicated to the Greek and Roman god Apollo in the ancient Roman town of Pompeii. The cult of Apollo, imported from Greece, was very widespread in Campania, and (from excavations in the temple's vicinity) is attested in Pompeii since the 6th century BCE. The sanctuary gained its present appearance in a 2nd century BCE. A copy of the statue of Apollo stands in the place where the original (now in the National Archeological Museum of Naples) used to be.
