Interior Duomo Monreale

The interior of the Duomo, the magnificent 12th century Norman Cathedral, begun in 1174 by William II in Monreale, about 8 kilometres south-west of Palermo. The interior is completely covered by magnificent gilded mosaics, the world of Byzantine artists. The half dome of the central apse has a colossal half-length figure of Christ, with a seated Virgin and Child below.
