Florence, the Renaissance city

Baptistry mosaics

The Baptistry, situated in front of the Duomo, was built in the 4th and 5th century in Romanesque style, but its present aspect dates from the 11th - 13th century. The eight-sided pyramidal roof dates from 1128 and its ceiling is completely covered with these wonderful 13th century mosaics.
