Matera, city of caves in Basilicata

Piazza Vittorio Veneto

Piazza Vittorio Veneto, in the modern city of Matera, dominated by the majestic façade of the Palazzio dell'Annunziata. This was the convent of the Claustrali Domenicans, built in Baroque style between 1734 and 1747 by the architects Valentino da Bitonto and Manieri da Lecce. It has been converted into a cinema and library, with a rooftop café.
