Military Flag of Haiti, 1803

After Haiti’s independence was proclaimed in 1803 the white stripe was removed from the French flag and on 18 May 1803, in the city of Arcahaie, not far from Port-au-Prince, the blue and red flag was adopted; the inscription “Liberté ou la Mort” (Freedom or Death) was added and this was used as a military flag.
