Transitional Government of Ethiopia, 1991

Transitional Government of Ethiopia, 1991

In May 1991 the oppressive Communist regime of Mengistu Haile Mariam came to an end when forces from the Ethiopian People’s Revolutionary Democratic Front and the Tigray People’s Liberation Front entered Addis Ababa, and Mengistu fled. A plain flag was used from then on by the Transitional Government. Flags without emblems had always been used by the populace, irrespective of which government was in power.
