Gymnasium court, Salamis

The court of the gymnasium in Salamis, surrounded by columned arcades on its four sides; it was an exercising ground. During the reign of Roman Emperor Augustus (31 BCE-14 CE) a stone basin with his statue was in the centre. Some of the columns, capitals and bases, originally belonged to the theatre. They were brought here after the earthquakes of the 4th century.
