Colonnades, Chrysopolitissa

The colonnades, from the second architectural phase of the Chrysopolitissa basilica, (6th century CE) divided the church into five aisles. Each of the four cloisters consisted of 12 columns placed on marble ionic bases and supported Corinthian capitals. The two eastern columns of the nave’s stylobate are of granite (blue) while the rest are of marble from Euboea (Greece).
