In Othello Castle (Othello’s Tower), built by the Lusignans in 1310 and modified by the Venetians in 1492, who named it after a Venetian governor, Lieutenant Christophoro Moro, in 1506. The castle is said to have been the home of Moro, who was the inspiration of Shakespeare’s Othello, who killed his love Desdemona in the castle. During British colonial times the fort was named after Shakespeare’s Othello.
