The Land Gate in the Venetian Walls and the Rivellino Bastion; constructed by the Venetians in the early 16th century, over 15 metres high, up to 8 metres thick and surrounded by a now waterless moat, the ramparts failed to keep the Ottomans at bay in 1571.
