Bellapais Abbey cloister

The cloister, which has 18 arches, in Bellapais Abbey, a monastery in the small village of Beylerbeyi (Bellapais), at an altitude of 220 metres above sea level. The original buildings were built between 1198 and 1205 and the main building of today was built during the rule of King Hugh III 1267-1284. The cloisters and the refectory of Bellapais Abbey, built during the rule of King Hugh IV, between 1324 and 1359. Under one of the arches on the north side Roman sarcophagi can be seen, that the canons once used as lavabos.
