Santiago de Cuba, the second-largest Cuban city

José Martí mausoleum, Santa Ifigenia

The mausoleum of the hero of Cuba’s independence struggle against the Spanish, José Martí, in the Cementerio Santa Ifigenia, the resting place of many notable Cubans. The imposing hexagonal structure is positioned so that Martí’s wooden casket inside receives daily shafts of sunlight. It was built in 1951.
