Bolivia State Flag, 1826

Bolivia State Flag, 1826

A new “Bandera Major”, (State flag) was adopted on 25 July 1826, only one year after independence; it used yellow and red, the colours of Colombia and her liberator Simon Bolivar, who also liberated Bolivia (called Upper Peru between 1776 and 1825) which was named after him. In the centre stripe is the Bolivian State Arms at the time. This flag was used until 14 July 1888 when the national colours were fixed in the current order and a new State Arms was introduced.
