Thimphu, Bhutan’s capital

Tashichho Dzong entrance

The northeast entrance of Tashichho Dzong, leading to the monastic sector, is open to visitors. The original Thimphu Dzong, built in 1216, was destroyed by fire four times and damaged by earthquake. It was rebuilt in 1962 as the seat of Government after the capital was moved from Punakha to Thimphu.
