A traditional mourning ceremony, honouring and commemorating important Jawoyn elders in Barunga, 80 kilometres from Katherine. The ceremony was held at the memorial site in Barunga where commemorative plaques were presented to the relatives at the Barunga Festival in 1995. The plaque attached to the memorial reads “In Memory of Willy “Jalama” Martin, a Senior custodian and proud upholder of Aboriginal Law and Tradition, passed away 30/3/94”.
