The Eastern Torres Strait Islands

Waier and Dawar

The small islands of Waier and Dawar and coral reefs near Mer or Murray Island (just visible on the left), in the eastern Torres Strait Islands. The two islands were finally formally handed back to the Murray islanders in 2002. There is no permanent habitation, but people travel regularly for fishing and camping.
