Thursday Island, the 'capital' of the Torres Strait Islands

Green Hill Fort

The restored gun emplacements, originally erected during the First World War on Green Hill, the highest point on Thursday Island. Hammond Island (Keriri) is in the background. The fortifications were originally built in the 1890s when it was believed the Russians were coming!
