Aboriginal Arts and Crafts from Central Australia
Ceremonial wooden “kurdiji”, (shields) with decorations relating to “owl” dreaming (left) and “ngarlu” or sugarbag dreaming, prepared for a “Ngajakula” or “Kurangarra” ceremony in Lajamanu, a Warlpiri Aboriginal community in the Northern Territory. Designs are painted and stuck on with “wamurlu” wild cotton, dyed with red ochre.
