Korça, Eastern Albania’s main city
The Mirahori Mosque, see from the rear, as it appeared in 2018: the minaret, that was toppled during a powerful earthquake on 21 May 1960, was rebuilt in 2014, as was the clock tower, visible behind it. The mosque was built in 1494 and named after Koja Mirahor İljaz Bej, a Muslim convert active in the 1453 Ottoman siege of Constantinople and the city-founder of Korça. He also built the first school in Albania for both girls and boys, in 1496.
