Republic of Albania, 1992
In April 1985 Enver Hoxha died and five years later the people of Tirana tore down and demolished his giant statue in the centre of the city. In March 1992 elections were held and communist rule came to an end. The communist star was removed from the national flag on 7 April 1992 and once more Albania flew the “Flamur e Skënderbeut” (Skanderbeg's flag): a red field with a black double-headed eagle.
